This four-day workshop invites participants to take a single photograph apart and discover how many new images it can hold.
Starting from their own self-portrait, participants print multiple copies and experiment with cutting, rearranging and recombining the image, aiming for as many as 100 variations. Along the way, they gather visual material from their surroundings, such as architectural details, patterns and textures, and weave these elements into their compositions.
Through hands-on experimentation, participants learn to recognise the most promising ideas and develop them into finished works.
Venice, a city of masks, reflections and endlessly reproduced images, is a natural setting for questioning what a photograph shows and what it can become. Kensuke Koike, who studied in Venice, returns to the city where his practice first took shape.
