GIL RIGOULET

Proximity in street photography
Entering intimacy and giving meaning to street photography
Sale price€1.490,00 Finance my workshop

“What interests me is the human being, the actor on this great theatrical stage that is life. My photography exists in a high-tension zone between 1.5 and 2 meters. Everything happens very fast.”

- Gil Rigoulet

This workshop explores street photography through proximity, intention, and human presence. For Gil Rigoulet, photography is first and foremost a way of thinking and positioning oneself in the world, a conscious act rather than a search for framing behind a viewfinder. Participants are invited to engage deeply with their subject, to enter situations with clarity, precision, and respect.

Over four days, photographers will work on defining their photographic intent, refining their attitude toward the subject, and developing the ability to read the street in order to identify meaningful situations. The workshop emphasizes immersion, rapid decision-making, and the construction of a coherent photographic series rooted in personal vision.

Bio

Gil Rigoulet is a French photographer who began his career as a photojournalist in the 1970s. In 1984, he became the first staff photographer of Le Monde, collaborating with the newspaper for over twenty years.

His work has been supported and presented by major figures of photography such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau, Denis Roche, and Christian Caujolle. For more than four decades, Gil Rigoulet has developed an author-driven body of work rooted in proximity, human presence, and a sharp observation of social dynamics.

Deeply committed to analogue photography, his practice is based on precision, concentration, and intention, where each image is conceived mentally before the shutter is released. He lives and works in Paris.
